Private Equity Groups

Private Equity Groups may present an excellent exit plan for certain businesses. For a company and owner that meet their criteria but may not be ready to leave the business completely there may be the opportunity for a recapitalization or "recap". Essentially part of the company is sold (or the company's assets are completely sold to a new entity of which the Seller obtains some ownership) and the owner retains a portion of ownership. This allows the owner to continue on until a later date for a final sale (usually at a much higher value). This is an fantastic way to alleviate the owner's net worth risk and "take some chips off the table".
